Drove the famous 'Road to Hana' today. It's a winding stretch of road starting at the north central coast of Maui and heading towards the south eastern part of the island. It's especially known for it's many waterfalls. Although it's only 39 miles long, it takes 1 1/2 hours to drive one way if you don't make any stops, and I read that it has over 600 switchbacks! It also has many single-track bridges, where traffic must yield in one or both directions. Because it's not an easy drive, one would hope for spectacular scenery to make up for it, and although that's what the books promise, we didn't find it to be the case. It was pretty, but we've driven lots prettier roads in Scotland and Ireland. Also, the 'Going to the Sun Road' in Montana is more scenic than the Road to Hana. And actually we saw some sights beyond Hana and into the southern entrance to Haleakalā National Park that we thought were more scenic. Tomorrow we will go into that park from it's northern entrance and up to the crater. It's supposed to be the steepest climb in the shortest distance anywhere in the world!
