July 8/12

Yesterday the weather wasn't sounding too good so we decided to drive to Peggy's Cove rather than walk around in Halifax. It was drizzling when we arrived and there wasn't too many people. We even got a shot of the lighthouse without anyone standing in front of it! We weren't surprised to see the rocks around it, but were surprised to see how close and run down some of the houses were behind it.

Today we spent the morning at the Citadel, a fortress overlooking Halifax. Fortunately for this city it was never attacked. From there we went to a pub session which today only had a fiddler, an octave mandolin player and a visitor who played guitar. We didn't have our instruments with us, but it's just as well, because the fiddler played so fast that we couldn't have kept up with him, even though we knew some of the tunes. After that we sailed on the Tall Ship Mar, which only used engine power to leave and return to the dock. It was interesting watching what they had to do to get the sails to turn the boat around, and it was a beautiful afternoon to be out on the water.

Tomorrow we leave Halifax and are headed towards Cape Breton!
