April 13/19 - Sea day

Today we didn’t leave the ship, sailing from Lisbon late last night and arriving at Cadiz, Spain tomorrow morning.

Earlier today I felt dizzy and unwell from the motion of the ship, but luckily it improved dramatically as the day progressed. It bothered Michael too, but didn’t affect his walking and his appetite the way it did me. The weather was lovely - sunny and a high in the late teens, so it’s not as though we had stormy weather, but I guess the waves were crashing up against the ship, causing more motion than one would have expected.

I really appreciate the international flavour of this cruise. Although the majority are from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia, there are 35 countries represented on this trip, and it’s not uncommon to hear other languages spoken. I get the feeling that this cruise won’t cater to Americans in the way that last year’s Viking cruise did. Despite the fact that we were in the Baltic then, most of the entertainment was definitely geared to Americans.

We attended a talk about the tours, up to and including Barcelona, and they sound lovely. We also attended a Tapas cooking demo, and saw a great show of dancing and singing of the music from Britain, starting from the 60’s and onwards. We also had a big nap in the afternoon to catch up on the night’s sleep that we missed while flying.

Tonight we had dinner in one of two special dining areas that normally charge extra. Courtesy of our travel agent at AMA, we can have one visit at each spot for free. The restaurant tonight is known for having great steak, and it was indeed very good. Even the mashed potatoes were amazing! There seems to be lots of gluten free options for Michael, or things that can be made GF, even in the casual dining area. After the British show we caught some classical music by a lovely violin and piano duo, who are regular late evening on-board musicians.
