July27/13

On our way to Oxford we drove by Uffington to see The White Horse. This is a chalk figure of a horse carved into a hill back in the Bronze Age. This part of England has lots of chalk figures, but the horse is the oldest.

Next stop was Oxford. Unfortunately our attempts at walking around the city didn't go very well. Initially we were lucky enough to find street parking near the Museum that Michael wanted to see, but the parts of the extinct dodo bird he was seeking had been moved to the British museum in London! After a brief look at some instruments dating from 1500 - 1800 we attempted to walk past some of Oxford's better known sites, such as Radcliffe Camera, Christ Church College and the Bodleian library. However, we walked in the wrong direction, and when we tried to drive to the area it was a madhouse of buses, people and NO parking. We found out later that it's much better to do the park and ride, but by this time it was too late. If we have time on our way back to Heathrow Airport perhaps we'll get brave and give it another shot.
